I know I promised in my last post that I would be taking pictures with my Canon. I didn’t. I just cannot seem to work out getting good pics and finishing an order on time. So last-minute Iphone pics will have to suffice ONE last time. These cookies were made for a friend of mine that wanted to honor her Boy Scout leaders. She said, just write on them, “You Are My Super Hero.” EEEEK! Let me tell you….I’ve never been good at writing with icing. It’s ALWAYS a disaster. But not this time. This brings me to THIS post title, “Writing On Cookies”.
I don’t have a KopyKake or a Pico projector. So what’s a girl to do when she cannot write straight with a piping bag to save her life? Wellllll, I’m going to tell you. I used the Camera Lucida App on my Iphone. You can also use it on an Ipad if you have one.
You upload any photo you want to use to the app. I propped my Iphone up on top of a glass so it was facing down on my cookie. You can see the cookie when looking at your screen and it shows your uploaded image and cookie at the same time on the screen. You can adjust how opaque you want your picture to be over your cookie to whatever works for you. So you just have to trace your picture. The tricky part is that you have to pipe looking at the screen instead of the cookie. What I did was write on each cookie with a fine-tip food color marker first. After I wrote on each cookie, I piped over the writing with my icing.
It was a lifesaver! It took a few tries of practicing before I got it down, but it was just what I needed to pipe my straight letters. I’m not savvy enough right now to actually make a video tutorial, but Klickitat Street Blog has a good tutorial you can watch to get the gist of it.
The app is pretty user-friendly and easy to catch onto. It was $4.99. So just a little tip for you friends! I hope it helps. Writing On Cookies. It’s not for sissies!
